Cubs' Mitts
These
fingerless mitts have a small cabled insert for decoration but are otherwise
not too fancy - suitable for teenage lads and lassies.
Size: 9.5 cm across (minus thumb)
Materials: 8 ply wool 50 g balls X 2
3.75 mm (No 9) dpns for ribbing
3.25 mm (No 10) needles for ribbing on thumb
Set of 5 X 4 mm (No 8) dpns for body
of glove
5 mm (No 6) needle for casting off

Gauge: 4 mm needles, stocking stitch
20 sts = 8.5 cm
16 rows = 5 cm
Abbreviations:
C4F: Slip next 2 sts onto
cable needle, Hold in front of work, Knit next 2 sts, Knit 2 sts from cable
needle.
T2F: Slip next st onto
cable needle, Hold in front of work, Knit next stitch, Purl stitch from cable

Cast Off
with 5 mm (No 6) Needle for stretchiness
Tie off and weave in ends.
Thumb:
Using 4 mm (No 8) dpns pick up 12 sts from stitch holder and 5 sts from
cast off (17 sts in total).
Work 5 rows stocking stitch.
Change to 3.25 mm (No 10) needles.
Decrease 1 st on first round of K2, P2 rib.
Work 4 more rows K2, P2 rib.
Cast off with 5 mm (No 6) needle.
Tie off and weave in ends.
I don't have a decent picture of the finished item yet as I knit the
first pair in black and the cables didn't show up but will update later once
I've finished the next pair. :)
